Our History

NOW...

THEN...

Shepherd of the City Lutheran Church began as Concordia Lutheran Church in 1899. Our church building was built in 1903 and originally included a school building to the east of the church. Our surrounding neighborhood was a center of Lutheranism in Ft. Wayne in the early 20th century; Concordia Cemetery to the north; Concordia Junior College nearby (now the Indiana Tech campus.)

In 1969 the congregation of Concordia Lutheran Church voted to build a new school and church on Lake Ave, where they stand today. Our church building was given to the members who wanted to stay. In 1970 we merged with another small congregation, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and officially became Shepherd of the City Lutheran Church. While we are a smaller congregation, we know that as Jesus said in Matthew 18:20, "...where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them."

Come and receive Jesus Christ together with us this Sunday at 9:30 AM! We would be glad to have you!
